Workshop for the urban sector

Events

The workshop dedicated to the presentation of the urban development scenario in the Bucharest-Ilfov region and the entire activity developed in relation to the above mentioned modeling scenario, as part of the OPERA-CLIMA project (Operationalization of the national strategy on climate change and development of the climate component within the 2014 – 2020 operational programs).  The project implemented by MEWF with technical assistance from the World Bank, and financed from the European Regional Development Fund by means through 2007-2013 OPTA – has as main purpose meeting Romania’s national objectives and observing the requirements of the European Union in the field of climate change.

One of the components of this project focuses on the development of a microeconomic and macroeconomic impact model, for climate and green growth policies, in the 2020-2030-2050 horizon. The model develops impact simulations of the economic activities and of the climate policies in Romania, estimating the effect of these policies in terms of costs and benefits on the production of goods, employment, trade, capital flows, urban development. The macroeconomic modeling is supplemented by the impact modeling at the level of six sectors (energy, urban, transportation, forestry, agriculture, waters).

In this context, the workshop supplied information about the manner in which technology, changes in the regulation policy, amendments brought to the sectoral policies influence the energy demand, level of pollution, degree of greenhouse gas emissions in a city / region.  The RACE (Rapid Assessment of City Emissions) model is the base of this evaluation, comparing data regarding the population and the development potential of the city / region.
