Workshops: economic modeling for the water sector

The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests sent invitations for the training session on economic modeling for the water sector. The training was carried out within the OPERA-CLIMA project, “Operationalization of the national strategy on climate change and development of the climate component within the 2014-2020 Operational Programs”), implemented by MEWF with the technical assistance from the World Bank and funded through the 2007 – 2013 Operational Program Technical Assistance.

An important component of the project focuses on developing a microeconomic and macroeconomic impact model, for climate and green growth policies, in 2020-2030-2050 horizon. The macroeconomic modeling is supplemented by the impact modeling at the level of six sectors (energy, urban, transportation, forestry, agriculture, waters).

During the two days, the training session focused on the instruments and techniques applicable in the water sector in order to analyze the options of sustainable and climate resilient economic growth, for Romania.  The objectives of the training session were:

  • to present the planning principles of the catchment areas;
  • to utilize the instruments in order to analyze the surface leaks;
  • to utilize the instruments in order to analyze the hydrological systems.

During the training session the AquaCrop instrument shall be presented to the participants without a particular emphasis on the crops modeling component. The World Bank experts shall also provide tutorials and the necessary materials for individual learning.

The two training days included power point presentations, demonstrations with software applications, and the participants had the possibility to directly utilize the IT tools.
