Events

Workshops having as topic the Macroeconomic Impact Modeling: In the context of the key objectives of Romania, which focus on the absorption of the future European Investment Funds 2014 – 2020 (out of which a minimum value of 20% must be allocated to climate projects), as  well as the discussions regarding the new commitments which Romania shall undertake in the 2030 Package on Energy and Climate, the MECC – World Bank project meets the requirements of the Romanian Government in relation to developing a solid analytical base in order to evaluate the economic and social impact, the costs and benefits of the policies and measures on developing an economy resilient to climate change.

The World Bank experts have started the process of developing a model for Romania – Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) – capable of integrating data from the following fields: energy, transportation, agriculture and forestry. The project focuses on strengthening the institutional capacity of the Government in regard to the economic modeling policy in the field of energy and climate changes, focusing on macroeconomic indicators like: gross domestic product, gross added value on sectors, employment, budgetary balance, carbon emissions.

The workshop provided to the representatives of the governmental institutions, involved directly or indirectly in the project, information about the CGE model, presenting concrete examples developed by the World Bank experts in other states and explaining the integration of information, especially those regarding the energy sector, in the impact macroeconomic model.

The most recent outcomes regarding Romania were presented and debated during the workshop, and they are related to the macroeconomic modeling component development by the European Commission, and they will be key elements of the applicable modeling framework. The technical discussions regarding the long term scenarios shall be accompanied by examples and references to studies developed at national level.
